Some find the intense colour and crowded décor indigestible, others will revel in it. An eclectic and amazing boutique hotel, the ancestral chalet home of Helga de Silva Blow Perera. Overlooking the city this hidden world of yesteryear lies in the suburbs within just 10 minutes stroll of the lake. Helga’s effervescent and eccentric personality permeates through the hotels many private rooms. Welcomed at reception and guided to the lounge for cocktails one is greeted by a myriad of wonderful artefacts and antiques. Enter a labyrinth of antiques, chandeliers and art deco mobiles of Indian, Sri Lankan, Dutch and English origin. The walls and high ceilings are painted in vivid colours and crammed with family portraits, historic paintings, film sets and temple relics. Burning candles drip in every corner and Frank Sinatra and tinkling ivories are heard softly in the background. Gardens surround the stone chalet and birds and wild monkeys creep down from the neighbouring jungle. The rear of the house is painted with cartoon-like animals; see no, hear no, speak no! Step into Midsummer Night`s Dream and take a dip in the glistening pool surrounded by child size silver fairies, a gift from her once struggling art student guests who have gone on to create their own success in later years. At night choose Helga has recently added a cinema room for children and all favourite DVD's and films are welcomed. The staff will entertain the children whilst the parents enjoy dinner a deux.
