Safaris

There are over 8 national parks in Sri Lanka and an abundance of wild animals, the heroes of which are the leopards, elephants, crocodiles, eagles and wild boar. A jeep safari is the best way to play Dr. Doolittle, or take an elephant ride through the Northern jungles. For our reviews of the many parks click here.

However, the savannah safari trips including super luxury camping, candle-lit dining by the river, wildlife specialists and overnight campsites within the National parks are a must for the real enthusiast.

Sightings of leopards, sloth bear, wild boar and baby elephants are best at sun rise and sunset which are only feasible when you camp-out as the Parks only allow jeeps in through the gates between 07.00 am and 06.00pm. Those who like the sound of savannah safaris but are on a tighter budget may wish to enquire about the more basic campsites
