Overview

Despite its small collection of cottages, the hotel has a slightly commercial and resort feel but is more imtimate and characterful than other large hotels of the area. Managed by Colours of Angsana, famed for ithe amazing spas, and combining enchanting nature with Indonesian contemporary styl. The cabanas are nestled on the banks of Giritale Reservoir, close to Polonnaruwa ancient cities, from where you can see the majestic standing Buddha.

A number of national wildlife parks surround the hotel where enthusiasts and adventurists can enjoy elephant rides through jungle, rivers and local villages.

Rooms

A refreshing, contemporary hotel set within the jungle and ancent ruins dating back some 2500 years. All 77 cottages are discreetly hidden within the peaceful jungle beside the Giritale reservoir, offering individual privacy.

Each is furnished with a blend of vibrant colours and asian craft - chic but not particularly in tune with Sri Lankan style.  Artfully displayed elephant motifs watch over your nightly dreams. Each has a double or twin beds, living area and day bed, dressing area, air conditioning, ceiling fan and satellite TV.  The cottage exterior is designed to reflect the surrounding jungle though a heavy use of woods.  Six cottages look out over the reservoir, ideal for moonlit cocktails.

All cottages have ensuite bathrooms with contemporary white and chrome fittings, 61 of which bring a touch of nature with an open-air garden bathroom allowing the sensational experience of showering under the stars!

Superior Cottage: Rustic cottages ideal for families or friends who wish to stay in connecting units.  These are available in a two-unit block or a four-unit block for larger groups.  The two-unit block features a living area and outdoor bathroom on the ground floor, the upper floor is devoted solely to the bedroom, ensuring a quiet and restful night's sleep.  The four-unit blocks have upper storey units with indoor showers and a shared balcony.

Deluxe Cottage : These cosy single-storey stand alone cottages are perfect for couples and honeymooners. Select from a choice of your own plunge pool or forest views.

Deluxe Duplex Cottage: Similar to the superior cotage 2 -unit blocks but  40% more spacious. The ground floor consists of a comfortable living area, dressing area and outdoor bathroom. Choose from a variety of pool, pond or forest views.

Angsana Cottage: Surrounded by beautiful landscaping and waterlily ponds, each spacious Angsana cottage boasts its own private gazebo with views of the reservoir.

Deluxe Pool Suite: the exclusive suite is a spacious two storey affair : dining room, living room with DVD player and outdoor shower on the ground level, as well as two kingsize bedrooms, indoor shower rooms and an open verandah on the upper floor. A large patio with a private plunge pool completes the accommodation.

Dining

Deer park offers  two restaurants with a wide range of a la carte, healthy options, including vegetarian and organic fare.

Ebony: brings together local and International cuisine, to the tinkling sounds of oriental  music. Opt for alfresco or air conditioned comfort with views across the reservoir.

Tree Tops  - adopts a fine dining ambience and service. The forest canopy acts as a backdrop to candle-lit tables. An international selection of foods and wines.

Jungle BBQ's : Dine to the sounds of the wildlife.  On some nights the local Veddahs  take a peek. A wonderful experience.

Private Dining: A champagne breakfast, high tea or dinner can be arranged amidst breathtaking scenery with personal butler service down by the reservoir - remember to wear repellant. You will be taken by elephant or buggy cart and the memory is  something to be savoured.

Two bars - the Oriole and Sandpiper,  feature a wide selection of international wines, spirits and beers. A focal point for those looking to swap sightseeing stories.  You may prefer to call for room service or open the mini-bar and sip cocktails on your verandah.

Things to do & local tips

  • Located close to Polonnaruwa's ancient cities  which are best enjoyed on foot or bicycle. The paths are clear and the  Museum by the tank is the best starting point .
     
  • Sigiriya Lion rock - 8th wonder of the world,  is just a 20 minute drive away. We recommend you make an early start at 7am to avoid the mid day heat and the crowds.
     
  • Head an hour West towards Dambulla for the ancient and majestic Dambulla caves.
     
  • For the rest day or evening, indulge in the five outdoor and four indoor spa pavillions. Angasana spas are famed across the Asia for offering the most skilled therapists and extensive range of massage, body and beauty treatments.  An Eastern spa  which offers a variation from Sri lankan ayurveda.
     
  • The more energetic may wish to work off some tension in the many sports arenas : basketball, volleyball, squash, gym, and finish off with a swim or sauna. Sports equipment can be hired but is limited in number and quality.
