If you are seeking the silent untouched beaches of Sri Lanka and wish to visit March-Oct, it doesn’t get better than Uga Bay.  Located on the less ‘touristy’ East Coast of Batticaloa- just a short internal flight from Colombo International Airport.

Beach Studios (22) offer direct beach access and air conditioned Kingsize ensuite bedrooms.

Ocean Studios (22) equal in style and layout but the here the terrace is replaced by uninterrupted first floor views of the Ocean from the balcony.

Bay Suite. Perfect for families or friendship couples with two separate bedrooms and connecting sitting room and dining area. A private plunge pool and views over the star lit infinity pool, which kisses the Ocean. A 24/7 butler is on hand to provide endless cocktails and snacks.

Beach Villa. A private duplex villa by the sea with clear views of tehs ecluded Bay. A spacious kingsize bedroom, private plunge pool and terrace- perfect for honeymooners.

Dining

With a strong East Coast influence, the chef has a fusion approach to the menu- obviously seafood features heavily most days, so meat-eaters beware!

Dining venues are your choice- the conventional verandah restaurant,  or a private location of your choice. 

Things to do & local tips

A first class spa which blends traditional Asian Ayurveda with European and Malaysian techniques. Full wellbeing packages, yoga and meditation are available in the treatment rooms or at the poolside cabanas.

Escapes: the ancient Ruins of Pollonaruwa are just 1-1.5 hrs drive

Safari excursions to see wild elephants and wildlife in nearby National Parks or head further South for an overnight visit to Yala for plentiful leopard sightings.

Local Culture: Graba hotel bicycle and visit the local fishing villages, local markets and Hindu temples.  Batticaloa still prides its Fort ruins but the City drivers may put of the ambling holiday cyclist. A driver or Tuk tuk may be preferable.

Watersports. Uga Bay’s protected Ocean mkes for ideal conditions for kayaks, windsurfing and when no one is about, have a wild ride on a jet ski.  Snorkellers can head for coral reefs and see colourful fish and fauna but don’t expect the underwater delights of the Maldives.  Shipwreck diving can be arranged if the undertow is safe.  Worldwar I relics (ships and Japanese bomber planes) can be explored at 45m deep if you are an experienced diver.

Gym. For those who miss the well trodden running machines of home, there is a basic air conditioned gym.
