On arrival, we were mesmerized by the lush greenery framing the white colonial structure with black stripes and french windows. The pond with water plants, the thick green grass, the bushes and shrubbery filling every space and thick vines framing the arches at the back porch yet only 1km from the town centre of Nuwara Eliya. Just overlooking the famous golf course and just minutes drive away from the region’s famous tea plantations.

The collection of interiors is spectacular, framed antlers, wooden carved chests and cupboards, four-poster beds, real wooden fireplaces, were  justsome of the antiques still in use. The cozy living and dining areas, comfortable bed rooms, and well equipped bathrooms were of the highest standards to ensure a luxuriously pampered stay.

The staff, with their excellent service levels and mouth watering cuisine was the icing on the cake- Private Butler services, bed tea/coffee services, evening turndown services are some of the personalized services offered along with baby sitting, laundry, limousine and air travel. Anilana Craigbank has four comfortably furnished bed rooms, each of them with king sized beds, open fireplaces and ensuite bathrooms. We booked the whole villa as is recommended for complete privacy, therein having access to all the rooms and amenities within. It basically did not matter which room you chose, all of them were of highest standards and comfort level. The beds donned in fine white linen and bed spreads, the plush couch and dressing areas, the hardwood floors with carpeting, the walls adorned with colorful paintings and antique furniture ensure a restful stay for mind and body.

The South Room is the most luxurious of all with a private dressing room and both shower and bath tub in the bathroom. Walls adorned in a dark mahogany set against a stark white wooden ceiling, creates a the cozy atmosphere for which to overlook the front verandah of the villa. The East Room has a contrastingly modern touch with an unadorned bed frame and dark green walls while the West Room has a typical antique carved bed frame and a more romantic shade of red on its walls. The North Room is the most romantic of all, with a fourposter bed, and tucked  away at the rear of the villa giving ample privacy.

All the meals are prepared with the finest of ingredients and all the main spices, herbs and vegetables are sourced locally. With adequate notice the staff will customize the menu and make your favourite dishes, served outside on the verandah or in the main dining hall if the night’s become chilly. The chefs have the expertise of local and International cuisine and the staff are happy to arrange a barbecue for special occasions. Anilana Craigbank has a ‘bring your own bottle’ policy for liquor and will not charge anything extra for your indulgences- so be prepared before you arrive.

While some mornings welcomed us with fresh juice and fruits with ample eggs and sausages and bacon, the other mornings had us waking up to traditional milk-rice and roti with local curries and spicy chutneys. We opted for lunch out on the verandah with the warm sun shining down on us and the evenings were spent in the main dining hall in all its English finery.
