There is a sense of tranquillity from the minute you enter "˜Victoria Villa'. Approach through the lily pond courtyard and cross over the stepping stones into your haven. This building in a classic colonial style of open verandahs, generous archways and white pillars, has been renovated in 2016 by a Sri Lankan architecture.
'Victoria Villa' is ideal for a family or group of friends looking for relaxation by the coast and within easy reach of Galle's history, Unawatuna's snorkelling and Yala safaris.
A fresh and bright villa, filled with reproduction Dutch style antiques. Three or four open verandahs and loggias offer everyone an escape to solitude if so desired. The large and neatly manicured lawn, peppered with swaying coconut trees and palms, has sunloungers around the 12 metre pool and steps down to the sandy Thalpe beach.
Only paddling is safe here, walk to the bay 1km along to find swimming-friendly waves. The staff is friendly and efficient and manager will help with any excursions or shopping advice.
'Victoria' has five air-conditioned large bedrooms; 4 doubles and 1 twin accommodating 10 adults comfortably.
The rooms each have similar décor and make a horseshoe-shape around the garden. The master bedroom overlooks the sea and has en-suite dressing room and bathroom. A further four double rooms and one twin, each with reproduction 4-poster beds, draped with soft, white mosquito nets. High ceilings encourage natural air movement, but ceiling fans can also be used. An abundance of colonial-style storage/wardrobe space and writing desks, which serve as stylish dressing tables.
Mirrors are limited except in the shower rooms, one of which has an open air shower area for star-gazing. The four rooms share three separate bathrooms. A small selection of toiletries and fresh linen/towels are replenished every day. Each room has a private garden courtyard or access to the landscaped gardens.
Eat as a group in the central dining room or out in the seaside pavilion. The stunning flower displays shine in the sunlight against the backdrop of large, seasoned- wood doors. Shutters open to lead from the grand jack-wood table to the garden.
